{"wiki":"en","slug":"guide-ip-firstsetup","markdown":"# Setting Up a Behnke IP Intercom System for the First Time\n\nThis setup guide walks you through the first-time setup of a simple Behnke IP intercom system with one door station and one indoor station.\n\nOnce setup is complete, call button `1` on the door station can call the indoor station with intercom ID `1`.\n\n> [!NOTE]\n> This setup guide covers a minimal system. For information on the basic structure, intercom groups and intercom IDs, see the article: [Structure and Function of an IP Intercom System](Guide_IP_General).\n\n<!-- block: voraussetzungen -->\n## Requirements\n\nThe following are required for the minimal system:\n\n- 1 Behnke door station\n- 1 Behnke indoor station\n- 1 PoE or PoE+ switch\n- 2 network cables\n\nFor a door station with a hearing loop, a PoE+ switch may be required, depending on the hardware used.\n\nBoth Behnke stations must be able to communicate with each other over the IP network.\n\nThe following configuration is used for this setup guide:\n\n| Device | Intercom group | Intercom ID |\n|---|---:|---:|\n| Door station | `1` | none |\n| Indoor station | `1` | `1` |\n\n> [!IMPORTANT]\n> The administrator password is a global setting and must be identical on all devices of the IP intercom system.\n\n![Minimal system](uploads/a6104fbc18c5cf3adfca5058acb5534a/grafik.png)\n\n<!-- block: geraete-mit-dem-netzwerk-verbinden -->\n## 1. Connecting the devices to the network\n\nFirst, put the PoE or PoE+ switch into operation.\n\nThen connect the door station and the indoor station to the switch, each with a network cable.\n\n```text\nAußenstation\n |\n |\n PoE-Switch\n |\n |\nInnenstation\n```\n\nThe devices start automatically once they are connected to the PoE supply.\n\nThe Behnke stations first try to obtain an IP address via DHCP. If no DHCP server is available, they use a self-assigned link-local address from the `169.254.0.0/16` network.\n\n> [!NOTE]\n> For a simple minimal system, no special configuration of the switch is generally required.\n\n<!-- block: aussenstation-einrichten -->\n## 2. Setting up the door station\n\nThe initial configuration of the door station can be performed using the configuration button.\n\nThe configuration button is located on the connection board of the door station.\n\n![Connection board with configuration button](uploads/a6ba93cec4e1da74780e67e8ee8632e2/Problem_Admin_Passwort_01.png)\n\n\n<b style=\"color: red;\">*</b> Configuration button\n\nPress the configuration button once to start the initial configuration.\n\nThen make the following settings:\n\n1. **Language:** German \n Press the configuration button `2 times`.\n\n2. **Operating mode:** Intercom mode \n Press the configuration button `4 times`.\n\n3. **Intercom group:** Group `1` \n Press the configuration button `1 time`.\n\nAfter the intercom group is selected, the configuration is saved.\n\nThis completes the basic setup of the door station.\n\n> [!NOTE]\n> The operating mode and intercom group selected during the initial configuration can be changed later via the web interface or the configuration mode.\n\n<!-- block: innenstation-einrichten -->\n## 3. Setting up the indoor station\n\nConnect the indoor station to the PoE switch and wait until the device has fully started.\n\nFor indoor stations, we recommend performing the initial configuration via the display.\n\n![Initial installation of the indoor station](uploads/e073436c187c8f9ded15f43870731ee9/grafik.png)\n\nDuring the initial configuration, select:\n\n- **Language:** German\n- **Operating mode:** Intercom mode\n- **Intercom group:** `1`\n- **Intercom ID:** `1`\n- **Name:** for example `Reception`\n\nAfterwards, further settings offered, such as inside door, code lock and automatic preview, can be set according to the installation.\n\nFor basic communication between the door station and the indoor station, the decisive factors are in particular the same intercom group and the intercom ID of the indoor station.\n\n<!-- block: funktion-pruefen -->\n## 4. Checking the function\n\nAfter the initial configuration, the door station and the indoor station are basically ready for operation.\n\nSince both devices are in intercom group `1` and the indoor station has ID `1`, call button `1` of the door station is automatically assigned to this indoor station, as long as no other call number has been configured for the button.\n\nPress call button `1` on the door station.\n\nThe indoor station should ring.\n\n```text\nAußenstation\nTaste 1\n |\n | Gruppe 1 / ID 1\n v\nInnenstation\nID 1\n```\n\nAnswer the call at the indoor station and check the voice connection.\n\nFor a door station with a camera, the video transmission can also be checked.\n\n<!-- block: aussenstation-benennen -->\n## 5. Naming the door station\n\nAfter the initial configuration, the door station initially uses its automatically assigned hostname.\n\nFor a clearer overview of the system, it is advisable to assign a meaningful name such as `Main entrance`, `Entrance` or `Delivery`.\n\nThe door station can be configured via the configuration mode of an indoor station.\n\nOpen the configuration mode of the indoor station and:\n\n- Log in with the administrator password\n- Select the door station\n\n![Door station settings via the indoor station](uploads/ddcfb5fefb513a352d2ff3de0c0f787e/grafik.png)\n\n- Open `General`\n- Select `Station name`\n- Enter the desired name\n- Save the configuration\n\nAfter saving, the door station is displayed under the assigned name.\n\n<!-- block: ergebnis -->\n## 6. Result\n\nThe basic Behnke IP intercom system is set up.\n\nThe devices are in the same intercom group, and the indoor station can be addressed via its intercom ID.\n\nThe following applies to the minimal system used here:\n\n```text\nSprechanlagengruppe: 1\n\nAußenstation\n |\n | Taste 1\n v\nInnenstation\nSprechanlagen-ID: 1\n```\n\nFurther call buttons, indoor stations and intercom groups can then be set up according to the desired installation.\n\n<!-- block: wenn-die-verbindung-nicht-funktioniert -->\n## 7. If the connection does not work\n\nIn particular, check the following:\n\n- Are the door station and the indoor station in the same intercom group?\n- Does the indoor station have the expected intercom ID?\n- Can both devices reach each other over the IP network?\n- Do all devices of the IP intercom system use the same administrator password?\n- Do all devices use at least firmware version `5.85`?\n- Has an individual call number already been configured for the call button?\n\nFor a call button that has not been individually configured, the following applies in intercom mode:\n\n```text\nTaste 1 → ID 1\nTaste 2 → ID 2\nTaste 3 → ID 3\n...\n```\n\n<!-- block: faq -->\n## 8.
